House Bill No. 2504

In the state of Texas, House Bill No. 2504 requires all public school districts to provide a syllabus for each course offered. The syllabus must include: the course description, the learning goals and objectives for the course, a list of required readings and assignments, and the grading policy. This bill was passed in order to ensure that students and parents have a clear understanding of what is expected in each course.

The implementation of this bill has been met with some challenges. Some teachers feel that they already spend enough time creating syllabi and do not want to add this additional burden. However, most agree that providing a detailed syllabus is beneficial for everyone involved in the education process. There are many benefits to having a detailed syllabus for each course.
